New Belgium: Tart Lychee

When it comes to New Belgium most of you know I (Jaye) am not a huge fan of their year round beers except for Belgo, but I dig most of their Lips Of Faith series beers, and Tart Lychee is one of them. Tart Lychee is a a ale with Lychee and cinnamon that is sour yet sweet at the same time. A must get beer for sour heads and people getting into sour beer.

New Belgium Brewing Co. – “Tart Lychee” American Wild Ale

8.5% abv 20 ibu’s – Lips Of Faith series – Poured into a tulip glass from a 22oz bottle. Bought at Kelly’s Liquor Store in San Jose, Ca.

Appearance: Pours a unfiltered creamy yellow body, 1 finger frothy white head that dissipates fast, and minimal carbonation.

Aroma: Subtle spice not of resin like cinnamon, wine like vinous notes, subtle vinegar like funk, and sweet raspberry from the lychee.

Taste: Sour, tart notes, funky, subtle oak, vinous, a nice astringency that makes the mouth pucker, earth clay like, and a subtle cinnamon spice.

Overall: Amazing beer I am giving this a 18 out of 20 making it a A- beer that will make any sour fan happy but also a great gateway sour to get people into. So easy drinking that it is well balanced between sweet and sour.
